8 Days great Rwanda safari tour itinerary

Day 1: Akagera National Park

Arrival to the beautiful Kigali City and transfer to Akagera national park

Morning drove to Akagera National Park where you arrive later that afternoon with lunch enroute. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge or similar

Day 2: Akagera National Park

Explore Akagera National Park. Akagera National Park is a Savannah park with Elephants, Hippos, Buffaloes and Lions. After an early breakfast we take a game drive in search of these animals, the game drive will take us to the northern part of the park where most of the animals prefer to inhabit. Take a boat trip on Lake Ihema in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge or similar

Day 3: Nyungwe Forest National Park

Transfer to the home of chimpanzees – Nyungwe Forest

This morning we depart for Nyungwe forest having our lunch en-route in Huye. We have opportunity of exploring the National Museum in Huye. After this experience we continue our drive to Nyungwe top view lodge perched on top a hill for overnight slightly past Nyungwe forest. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel or similar

Day 4: Nyungwe Forest National Park

Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk. After early breakfast, we leave for Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest. The forest is rich in botanical diversity and home to 13 species of primates including Chimpanzees, L’Hoest monkeys, and Columbus monkeys. You will receive briefing from your ranger guide and thereafter start your trek. Later that afternoon or immediately you will take on the canopy walk experiencing the forest differently. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel or similar

Day 5: Volcanoes National Park

From Chimpanzee to Mountain Gorillas. After breakfast, depart for Volcanoes national park along the Congo -Nile trail with views of Lake Kivu and its Islands. We shall arrive at the lodge in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge or similar

Day 6: Volcanoes National Park

Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park. Meet the mountain gorillas in the dense jungles of the Virunga ranges. Embark on the trek through the habitat of these enormous animals. Such an unforgettable experience on many people’s bucket list. The trek can last from an hour to four hours depending on where the gorillas nested the previous night – you need to be relatively fit to enjoy this experience. Dinner and overnight at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge or similar

Accommodation:

Day 7: Lake Kivu

Experience Lake Kivu. After breakfast, drive to Gisenyi where we visit the fishing village, visit DRC-Rwanda border (Gisenyi town) and relax at the lakeside in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Waterfront Resort or similar

Day 8: Kigali

After breakfast, drive to Kigali and transfer to the airport
