11 Day best of Uganda & Rwanda safari tour itinerary
Day 1: Kigali
Arrival
Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Des Mille Collines or similar
Day 2: Nyungwe National Park
Transfer to Nyungwe NP
After breakfast, drive to the western province, on your way visit the Royal Palace Museum and Ethnographic Museum in Southern Province, this will give you a great history of traditional ways of living among Rwandans and their past way of leadership of Kingship with an en-route lunch. You will reach in the afternoon at Nyungwe national park and spend the afternoon at your leisure. Dinner and overnight at Emeraude Kivu Resort or similar
Day 3: Nyungwe National Park
Chimpanzee trek and canopy walk
Today, after your early morning cap of African coffee, you will leave your hotel to experience the natural forest of Nyungwe well known for having 13 species of primates, and transferred to the park for briefing and chimpanzee trekking. You will be entitled to one hour on finding the chimpanzees. During the chimpanzee trekking you may as well site other primate such as the famous Congo colobus monkeys. After doing the chimpanzee trek, head for lunch before heading for a canopy walk. This 90 meters suspended metallic bridge will give you a great overview of Nyungwe forest and on a luck day spot one or two more primates in the forest as you take a walk on this bridge. Dinner and overnight at Emeraude Kivu Resort or similar
Day 4: Musanze City near Volcanoes National Park
Transfer to Musanze
You will make up ready to catch up with the beautiful sun rise over the Lake Kivu after just getting done with your morning breakfast. You will take a boat ride to explore the beautiful attractions within this great lake. You have a nature walk at one of the islands within this lake which is known for harboring thousands of the bats. This lake is also known as a birding paradise as it host a number of bird species like the cormorant, pied king fishers, weaver birds, heron to mention but a few. You will later return for and drive off to Musanze which is roughly a 3 hours’ drive. Musanze is a tourism area near Volcanoes National Park, where most of the lodges are located since there are no lodges inside of the park. Dinner and overnight at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge or similar
Day 5: Musanze City near Volcanoes National Park
Golden Monkey trekking and Cultural visit
After early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for briefing and start off you day golden monkey trekking. Just like the gorilla trekking experience, the same applies to golden monkey trekking though no so hectic like gorilla trekking. In the afternoon, you will visit a village to taste the local life with a taste of the traditional performance at Iby Iwacu cultural center. Dinner and overnight at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge or similar
Day 6: Lake Bunyonyi – Uganda
Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi / Uganda via Cyanika Border
After early breakfast, drive to Uganda through Cyanika boarder to arrive at Lake Bunyonyi for lunch and afternoon at leisure overlooking the lake Bunyonyi. Dinner and overnight at Bird Nest Resort or similar
Day 7: Bwindi National Park
Lake Bunyonyi Canoe ride and transfer to Bwindi
After breakfast, depart for a canoe ride on Lake Bunyonyi. This is the most spectacular lake, one of its kinds with numerous islands that make it most rewarding and center for tourism in the western region. Return to the lodge for your lunch and a short siesta. Later, depart for Bwindi national park. Dinner and overnight at Rushaga Gorilla Camp or similar
Day 8: Bwindi National Park / Queen Elisabeth National Park
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi and transfer to Queen Elisabeth
After early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters with picnic lunches for briefing by the park official. After briefing, start your trekking. After trekking, return to the lodge for relaxation and afternoon drive to Queen Elizabeth through the beautiful unwinding fig trees of Ishasha as you’re welcomed by a number of wildlife along the way. Dinner and overnight at Parkview Safari Lodge or similar
Day 9: Queen Elizabeth National park
Game drive and boat cruise
After early breakfast, drive for game drive in search of buffalos, elephants, waterbucks, bushbucks, Uganda kobs, lions and variety of bird species. Return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch you will proceed for a boat cruise along the Kazinga channel to view the water dwelling birds and animals such as the pied king fisher, African fish eagle, herons, darters to mention but a few and see animals such as buffalos, crocodiles, monitor lizards, elephants wallowing at the mad and much more. After boat cruise, return to the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Parkview Safari Lodge or similar
Day 10: Kigali
Transfer back to Kigali
After breakfast, with a beautiful view of the channel, drive back to Kigali via Kitagata hot springs to view the beautiful hot springs’ back to Kigali with an enroute lunch at a convenient restaurant along the way to Kigali. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Des Mille Collines or similar
Day 11: Departure
Airport Transfer
After breakfast, transfer to the airport.
