Tour Highlight: Kigali City
This tour takes approximately 2 ½ hour drive from Kigali. The King’s Palace which is located in Rwanda’s Nyanza ya Butare district, was the traditional seat of Rwanda’s kingdom. This historical location was of key importance during the colonial era. The ancient palace has been reconstructed in Rukari and visitors can explore the replica of King’s Palace which was built using traditional materials and methods
You shall learn about the evolution of farming and building through the centuries and proceed to meet the long-horned cows, known as Inyambo. They are very beautiful to look at with a different elegance from normal cows.
These beautiful animals are part of the royal heritage and are used in many different important ceremonies. You will learn about their breeding techniques and also listen to the amahamba songs that the shepherds sing during the grooming process.
There is a second palace which was built in 1932 for the Rwanda’s King Mutara III Rudahigwa. This palace is more modern and their homes exhibit details of the monarchy and its expansion from the 15th century. They also show information on the kingdom and colonial era under Germany and Belgium.
