Tour Highlight: Kigali City / Mukungwa / Kigali City
Today, we pick and drop you off you in the heart of Kigali town at a coffee shop called La Silene. Since lunch is not included on this tour, you can purchase a packed lunch here either before the start of the tour or at the end of the tour. We want to explore and discover Rwanda in a special style. The Mukungwa River is less than 30 minutes away from the Volcanoes National Park and offers impressive views of the surrounding area.
The canoeing starts just down from the source of the Mukungwa river, Rwanda’s twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera. You’ll be accompanied by a qualified canoe guide, and it’s a fun way to see a different side of this section of the country. Your experienced guide will be with you for the duration of the excursion and will give you a safety briefing prior to getting on the water, and full instruction.
As you paddle your canoe along the river, you will encounter the local communities plus a little excitement through some small rapids. You can get out and walk around if you prefer.
The guides will have dry bags for your belongings. We discourage you from carrying electronics, jewelry etc. Our guide will be having a waterproof camera for those memorable moments. The river’s catchment area is a brilliant spot to see many of the resident bird species. The whole trip lasts about 4 hours and is accessible to all, with no experience including children.
As you paddle, you will at high altitude hence it may rain at times but this does not affect your trip. The trip lasts a total of about 4 hours where about 2.5-3 hours are on the water. The maximum size of group is 8 per trip in order to be well served by our guide. During the tour, you are provided with only drinking water.
